What Does the ENG1 Medical Involve?

The examination confirms that a seafarer is medically fit to perform duties on board ships and ensures safety for the individual and crew.

The assessment includes:
- Review of medical history
- Height, weight and BMI measurement
- Blood pressure check
- Vision testing including colour vision
- Hearing assessment if required
- Lung and heart examination
- Urine test
- General physical examination
The aim is to ensure that the individual does not have any medical condition that could pose a risk while working at sea. The appointment usually takes around 30–40 minutes.

- Passport or photo identification
- Previous ENG1 certificate (if renewing)
- Details of your GP
- Glasses or contact lenses if worn
- Details of any medication
- Relevant medical reports if applicable
Can composite be used for front and back teeth?
Yes, composite is suitable for both, though it’s especially preferred in visible areas due to its natural appearance.
