Mrs Meena Ranka, FDS (Rest Dent) RCS
Qualifications and Specialisations
Mrs. Meena Ranka holds BDS, MFDS RCS (Eng), FDS (Rest Dent) RCS qualifications and is a Consultant in Restorative Dentistry specialising in Prosthodontics, Periodontics, and Endodontics. Her General Dental Council (GDC) registration number is 100449.
Professional Journey
Mrs Ranka is a specialist in Restorative Dentistry, including Prosthodontics, Periodontics, and Endodontics. She qualified as a dentist in 1997 and completed her MFDS in North-East England in 2005. She commenced specialist training in Restorative Dentistry at Liverpool Dental Hospital and attained FDS (Rest Dent) RCS in 2012 from the Royal College of Surgeons of England. Mrs Ranka was appointed as a Consultant in Restorative Dentistry at the Royal Preston Hospital in July 2013 and held the post of Clinical Director of Dental Specialties from 2016 to 2018.
Achievement and Recognition
She achieved clinical excellence awards for her work during this time, in addition to a charitable grant from Rosemere Cancer Centre for the treatment of Head and Neck Cancer patients. She was the Clinical Audit lead and regularly chaired the Evidence-Based Dentistry Forums.
Areas of Expertise
Her main remit at the hospital was oral rehabilitation of head and neck oncology patients. Her main areas of interest include fixed and removable prosthodontics in the management of complex restorative cases, including treatment of patients with tooth wear (with a confirmative and reorganised approach), hypodontia (congenitally missing teeth), oral rehabilitation of head and neck cancer patients and implant dentistry. Mrs Ranka has experience in joint orthodontic-restorative treatment planning for the treatment of patients with hypodontia and cleft lip and palate. She enjoys her work of restoring smiles and oral rehabilitation.
Contributions and Achievements
Mrs Ranka is currently working as a Consultant in Restorative Dentistry at the Luton and Dunstable University Hospital since December 2018. She has set up the Restorative Service for this region, with her specialist interest in Head and Neck Cancer. She regularly attends courses and conferences for continuing professional development and has completed an Advanced Implantology course. She has published papers in peer-reviewed journals. Furthermore, she is a member of the British Society of Prosthodontics and has been actively involved in the Restorative Managed Clinical Network.

Edward is a full qualified Consultant Maxillofacial Prosthetist and full member and vice chairman of
the Institute of Maxillofacial Prosthetists Technologists. He is also a registered Dental Technician
with the GDC. Registration: 125530
Professional Journey
Edward started his career in 1997 at Guy’s & St Thomas Hospital as a Trainee Dental Technician and
obtained his Diploma in Dental Technology in 2000. Between 2001 and 2003, Edward work as a
Dental Ceramist, at the same time attended evening school at Lambeth college to complete his HNC
in Orthodontics.
In 2004 he become a Senior Orthodontic Technician at the John Radcliffe in Oxford and then
eventually Chief Orthodontic Technician in 2007 at Wexham Park Hospital. Here Edward obtained a
certificate in Healthcare Leadership and Management at West London University.
In 2009 Edward attended Manchester Metropolitan University, studying Maxillofacial Prosthetics &
Technology, becoming qualified as a Maxillofacial Prosthetist in 2011.
In 2013, Edward become the Laboratory manager of the Maxillofacial Laboratory at Luton &
Dunstable Hospital. During this time he implement a 3D printing service, and obtained funding for a
CBCT scanner at the trust. In 2020, Edward was awarded a level 5 Diploma in Management and
Leadership of the Chartered Managers Institute.
Since July 2021 he is now the Maxillofacial Laboratory Manager at Healthcare Partners Ltd, which is
a 100% wholly owned subsidiary company of the Royal Surrey Hospital in Guildford. Edward has
since implemented BSI ISO13485 quality management systems into the laboratory which focuses on
the quality custom made medical devices.
Personal Interests
When not at work, Edward enjoys spending time with his wife and children. He loves to DJ whenever
possible, this has always been his lifetime passion. He also works on building projects of his own,
from house renovation to building model railways.
R-Dental
Bringing the speciality of Maxillofacial Prosthetics to R-Dental is a unique service usually only found
within the NHS. This clinic provides expert care and custom made silicone prosthetics to aid
rehabilitation of patients suffering with congenital, traumatic or post-operative facial defects. This
service may also involve the speciality of Oral Maxillofacial rehabilitation of head and neck cancer
patients, connecting highly complex devices via obturation to achieve not only function, but also
aesthetics.
Areas of Expertise
His main interests include prosthetic rehabilitation of patients who have suffered facial injury or defects due to cancer, this includes Ocular, Auricular and Nasal silicone prostheses. Edward is also very experienced with Digital Orthognathic Planning and regularly attends joint planning with surgeons to virtual plan surgical moves. Edward is also expert at Prosthetic Obturation of head and neck cancer patients and has worked closely with Dr Ranka for many years to achieve excellent patient outcomes.
Contributions and Achievements
Edward currently works at the Royal Surrey Hospital in Guildford as a Consultant Maxillofacial Prosthetist and has implemented many new initiatives including digital surgical planning. He is a National and International speaker and has lectured on a range of topics including 3D Orthognathic Planning, 3D Medical Modelling and most recently at the British Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons on the NHS England Getting it right first time (GIRFT) report for Maxillofacial laboratories.
Personal Interests
At home, she is a busy mum and enjoys spending her time with her husband and son. She plays badminton, and her hobbies include crafts, travelling and cooking.
